DETOXIFICATION AND MEDICATION ASSISTED TREATMENT

Often detoxification is the first step on your road to recovery. Ambulatory detoxification is medical treatment that assists with cleansing and clearing the body of alcohol and drugs of abuse/dependence. Ambulatory means that the patient is medically supervised but does not need the intensity of hospitalization. When engaged in ambulatory detox, patients participate in outpatient treatment and can return to their homes at night.

Ambulatory detox is cost effective and is less restrictive treatment setting than residential treatment. This allows patients to receive high quality substance abuse treatment while reducing costs and experiencing fewer disruptions at work and home.

Behavioral Health Hawaii offers patients the ability to receive treatment from a physician in order to complete detoxification.

Our medical staff will conduct a thorough and extensive assessment of your use history, medical conditions, if any, and past medications used. This allows us to design the best possible program to set the patient up for continued success.

Our physician will work with you to develop a personal, unique, and individualized plan with a goal of freeing you from drug and/or alcohol dependence. Our medical staff will work with you to develop a plan based on the most current and advanced medical interventions. A benefit of medically supervised detoxification is a reduction in uncomfortable and often dangerous symptoms that may be experienced when attempting detoxification on your own.

MEDICATION ASSISTED TREATMENT

Current medical guidelines have demonstrated that Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) is effective in reducing cravings and lowering a person’s risk of relapse. Although total abstinence is the goal of treatment, these medications may prove beneficial in aiding your recovery:

Suboxone can deliver relief from heroin cravings and can make addiction recovery possible, but the medication should only be used in accordance with a comprehensive treatment program. Clinicians can determine an appropriate Suboxone dose, and they can pair the use of the medication with therapy, allowing patients to build up resistance to the temptation to use drugs.

Vivitrol (Naltrexone) can be beneficial in improving adherence to treatment and promoting long-term recovery.

Benefits of Medication Assisted Treatment:

  • Increases treatment efficacy when combined with counseling and therapy
  • Can increase adherence to treatment
  • Blocks euphoric effects of opiate/opioids to reduce relapse and cravings
  • Reduces risk of overdose and death

The point is, at Behavioral Health Hawaii, we believe in treating the whole person. We will work with you individually to address your specific needs and to set you up for the best chance at long-term recovery. If medication is appropriate, you will have the opportunity to meet with our medical staff and assess your need for Medication Assisted Treatment.

Additionally, we have master’s level counselors and Certified Substance Abuse Counselors that are available to support, encourage, and assist you in becoming clean and sober while in the detoxification process.

The advantage in receiving treatment with Behavioral Health Hawaii is that you will receive medically monitored detoxification while being supported by our outpatient staff.
